The origin and development of MIM technology

Metal injection molding (mim) can be traced back to the ceramic spark plug powder injection in the 1920s. In the following
decades, powder injection mainly focused on ceramic mim.
It was not until 1979, when Parmatech, founded by Wiech and others, won two awards for its metal injection molding
products, and Wiech and Rivers were granted patents, that powder injection molding began to be dominated by metal
injection molding.
In the past, due to the lack of suitable powder and raw material price is too high, knowledge platform is not perfect,
technology is not mature, people understand and market acceptance time is not long, production (including mold
manufacturing) cycle is too long, investment is not enough, MIM technology  development and application is relatively
slow. 
In order to solve the difficulties of MIM technology and promote the practical application of MIM technology, an advanced
powder engineering program was developed in the United States in the mid-1980s, covering 18 subjects related to injection
molding.Subsequently, Japan and Germany also actively carried out the development and research of MIM.
Wiech established Witec in 1980, Brunswick entered the MIM industry in 1982 and acquired Witec, and then gradually
registered subsidiaries such as Omark industry, Remington military products and Rocky dentistry.Wiech technology
was introduced by Japanese company Nippon Seison in 1986.In 1990, metalor2000 Israel introduced Wiech technology
from Parmatech and set up MIM production line.

With the deepening of MIM research and the development of new binders, the continuous progress of powder
making technology and degreasing technology, the industrialization has been realized by the early 1990s.After more than
20 years of efforts, MIM has become one of the most promising new near-net forming technologies in the field of powder
metallurgy in the world, and is praised as one of the "hottest metal parts forming technologies in the world".
